Erythrocyte cast in urine

Erythrocyte (red cell) cast

Casts are formed when proteinacious material deposits around renal tubules. These then slough off into the urine. Sometimes casts are associated with cells or crystals. In other cases, there is nothing associated with the cast, referred to as a 'hyaline cast'. In this case, the cast has erythrocytes inside.
